Job title: Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

We’re SNIF Labs, a privately funded startup company creating innovative, web-based devices for consumers and beyond. Our premier product, the SNIF Tag, provides pet owners with a novel way to care for their pets and connect with other pet owners. Our office is located in Boston, MA (near South Station). We are looking for you, a skilled software engineer who will help us build our core technology platform as we expand into multiple markets.

You've got real-world experience with:

• Ruby on Rails, open-source relational databases, Linux, Apache
• JavaScript (XHR/Ajax, DOM Manipulation), XHTML, CSS, XML
• Object-oriented design and design patterns
• Agile software development practices and principles (test-driven development, pair programming, continuous integration)

Because you like to stay on top of things, you have knowledge of:

• Current Ruby on Rails best practices and design idioms (REST, skinny controller/fat model)
• XHTML best practices and design idioms (semantic markup)
• Issues related to scalability, if not direct experience with scaling network applications (load balancing, clustering)

You also have:

• Ability to work independently, take initiative and contribute new ideas required in a diverse, fast-paced, team environment.
• Organizational and analytic skills, with problem solving ability
• Excellent communication and written skills
• College degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience

Bonus points to you for your experience with:

• MySQL advanced configuration and tuning
• Apache modproxybalancer and Mongrel
• Software management tools such as Capistrano, Subversion, and Trac
• Flash & ActionScript
